Careers

Alma Mader Brewing is now hiring!

Taproom Operations Manager

This is a chance to take everything we’ve built running our current taproom and use it as the foundation for something bigger and more complex. You’ll bring proven systems into a larger space, adapt what works, build what’s new, and train the team that sets the standard going forward.

You’ll lead day-to-day operations across a two-bar taproom and work closely with our Owner/Director of Operations as her closest operational partner. Your scope will grow as trust is earned — this role has room to expand.

What You’ll Own

Leadership & Daily Operations
  • Lead all aspects of daily taproom operations — including opening/closing, cleanliness, beer quality and presentation, menu accuracy, POS and cash reconciliation
  • Oversee the movement and quality of our beer — keg and package transfers, inventory management, line cleaning schedules, and coordination with the production team to ensure we consistently meet our standards
  • Manage weekly inventory and ordering across all retail and COGS items — beer-to-go, frozen drink ingredients, and other consumables — ensuring accurate stock levels and smooth beer-to-go operations
  • Manage merchandise and retail operations — coordinate with Director of Operations on ordering, inventory and display
Team & People
  • Recruit, hire, train, and coach hourly staff; build schedules that balance service and labor goals
  • Ensure all staff hold required certifications and training — responsible alcohol service, ID-checking protocols, and any food safety requirements
  • Own staff performance management — regular feedback, reviews, and addressing performance issues directly
  • Set the tone for guest experience: warm service, beer knowledge, efficient and professional handling of guest needs
Safety & Facility
  • Lead safety and incident response — protocols for intoxicated guests, altercations, medical emergencies, and severe weather or other emergency situations
  • Manage our kitchen partner relationship as the on-site point of accountability — covering space upkeep, cleanliness standards, and operational coordination — to deliver a seamless guest experience
  • Oversee all facility and service vendors — including but not limited to trash and recycling, pest control, cleaning, towel service, glassware, and alarm/security — ensuring reliable service and a well-maintained space
  • Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations
Events & Growth
  • Drive growth of private/corporate events as a key revenue channel
  • Collaboratively plan and execute public events with ownership, using them to build community engagement and brand presence
  • Oversee Madera Membership events at the taproom — logistics, member events, and related coordination
  • Serve as the on-the-ground liaison for taproom-specific marketing — in-house signage, menu updates, and promotional execution in coordination with brand strategy
Strategy & Partnership
  • Meet weekly to review sales, labor, staffing, vendor status, and operational needs — bringing insights and recommendations to the table to shape strategy, make informed decisions, and stay ahead of problems before they escalate

Qualifications

Required
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the composure to deliver warm, genuine hospitality under pressure
  • Ability to make sound decisions, solve problems proactively, and remain calm under pressure
  • 3+ years of leadership or management experience in hospitality, retail, food & beverage, or another customer-facing environment
  • Proven experience leading, coaching, and developing teams
  • Comfort working with sales, labor, and cost data to guide staffing and operational decisions
  • Experience creating employee schedules and managing labor costs
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities
  • Comfortable working evenings, weekends, and holidays as business needs require
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and remain on your feet for extended periods
  • Must be at least 21 years of age and eligible to obtain any required alcohol and food service certifications
Preferred
  • Previous experience managing a brewery taproom, craft beer bar, restaurant, or hospitality venue
  • Demonstrated interest in growing into broader operational responsibility over time
  • Passion for craft beer and a desire to continually expand your beer knowledge
  • Experience with POS systems, inventory management, and cash handling
  • Familiarity with event planning and execution
  • Current food handler / ServSafe certification, or willingness to obtain within the first 90 days

Compensation & Benefits

  • Competitive salary, based on experience
  • Performance-based bonus opportunities
  • Paid time off
  • Health benefits
  • Beer and merchandise benefits
